\u201cThought leadership\u201d and \u201clow-hanging fruit\u201d are like nails on a blackboard to Ignites<\/i> readers, who last week bestowed the terms the ignoble crown of most hated in the fund industry.<\/p>\n
Among sets of 10 common buzzwords and clich\u00e9s in last week\u2019s polls, readers voted their disdain for those catchphrases over others such as \u201csolution\u201d and \u201cboots on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
The polls proved popular among Ignites<\/i> readers, attracting 700 responses.<\/p>\n
Experts have noted that while industry jargon and clich\u00e9s can make communication more efficient, the use of unfamiliar or vague terms can also lead to discrepancies in meaning and spur confusion during interactions with both clients and associates.<\/p>\n
Twenty-two percent of respondents voted \u201cthought leadership\u201d as the worst industry buzzword, over \u201cvalue add\u201d (16%), \u201csynergy\u201d (14%), \u201cholistic\u201d (10%), \u201csolution\u201d (9%), \u201cleverage\u201d (8%) and \u201crobust\u201d (6%).<\/p>\n
Regarding the clich\u00e9s, 19% of readers disfavored \u201clow-hanging fruit,\u201d just ahead of \u201cThink outside the box\u201d (18%), \u201cLet\u2019s circle back\u201d (15%) and the moderately creepy \u201cOpen the kimono\u201d (13%).<\/p>\n
\u201cBreaking down the silos\u201d received 9% of votes, while \u201cSkate to where the puck is going to be\u201d garnered 7%.<\/p>\n
